Datos de publicación: Concrete structures are continuously exposed to many sources of degradation and unforeseen challenges, often requiring strengthening techniques to extend their service life. In the last decade, shape-memory alloys (SMAs) have gained significant attention in structural engineering due to their unique ability to return to their original form after being deformed. This property, known as the shape-memory effect (SME), enables SMAs to act as prestressing reinforcements, generating recovery stresses upon activation (through heating and subsequent cooling) when deformation is constrained. Among the different SMAs, the use of iron-based SMAs (Fe-SMAs) has shown ex-ceptional potential for structural strengthening. However, recent studies suggest that the benefits of using Fe-SMA bars might be reduced under semi-cyclic loading. This paper presents the results of an experimental campaign focused on evaluating the effect of semi-cyclic loading on concrete elements reinforced with Fe-SMA bars. The specimens were reinforced with 11 or 16 mm diameter Fe-SMA bars and exposed to semi-cyclic loading either before and/or after the activation of the Fe-SMA bars. The initial findings confirm the efficacy of using Fe-SMA bars as prestressing reinforcements even under semi-cyclic loads, especially when multiple activations are applied. Therefore, this research offers promising insights for enhancing the durability and safety of existing reinforced concrete structures by using Fe-SMAs bars.. Presentación de comunicación.
